Yes, most Habitat ReStores offer pickup of furniture donations, as well as other large items like appliances and building materials. In addition to used items, many stores carry new surplus building materials donated by businesses in your community and around the country. Not your everyday building supply stores, Habitat for Humanity ReStores accept and sell a wide variety of new and used building materials.

Through the resale of your generous donations, we are able to help fund the construction and repair of homes with Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are proudly owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates. Proceeds are used to build homes and improve communities locally and around the world.

There are hundreds of ReStore locations – and they’re all open to the public. Affordable housing refers to housing options that cost a family no more than 30% of their income. As one of the fastest-growing cities in America, Charlotte has seen a surge in population, causing housing prices to rise significantly. The University closure reduces Habitat Charlotte Region’s retail footprint to 6 area locations. We will continue to operate our Pineville, Wilkinson, Wendover, Cornelius, Mooresville and Statesville ReStores. Habitat Charlotte Region’s new home floor plans range in size from a 2-bedroom, 1-bath design up to a 5-bedroom, 2.5-bath design, in addition to other single and Townhome layouts (project dependent).
In addition to furniture, appliances, home décor and home improvement items, we also accept books, DVDs, vinyl records, and VHS tapes. Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region officially reopened the newly renovated Cornelius Restore with a ribbon-cutting courtesy of the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce. The Cornelius Restore, one of six retail operations run by Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, got a $400,000 update. The Cornelius North Main Street location was closed for two months during the renovation. The N. Main Street location was closed for two months during the renovation.
Habitat ReStores are home improvement stores and donation centers. You can support our work by shopping at and donating items to a Habitat ReStore near you. Most Habitat ReStores have a wide variety of building materials for sale, and selection at each store will vary depending on what donations they have recently received. See the list at the bottom of this article for materials you may find at Habitat ReStore. While building homes is part of the solution, Habitat and our global network also advocate to change policies and systems in the United States and internationally, working to eliminate barriers to adequate and affordable housing.

Housing costs in Charlotte have outpaced wage growth, making it challenging for many working individuals and families to find affordable places to live. Beginning August 24, the University ReStore will reduce its days of operation to Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to 4pm. It will be closing in the November timeframe to allow time to wind down operations, and to place University ReStore staff into other roles within retail operations. A guiding principle of the Our Towns Habitat and Habitat Charlotte merger was to combine resources in order to gain efficiencies, reduce costs, and subsequently serve more families. After passing its 5-year anniversary earlier this year, the University ReStore location was never able to fully gain a foothold in the market, and drive revenue levels that delivered a positive net operating income.
Since launching the Cars for Homes national vehicle donation program in 2005, Habitat for Humanity has accepted over 100,000 vehicles for reselling or recycling, raising more than $30 million in the last 5 years alone. The program has raised funds for Habitat Charlotte Region to partner with local families to build safe, stable, and affordable homes. We make it fast and easy to donate a vehicle, and you may qualify for a tax deduction. In many locations, Habitat for Humanity operates ReStores, which sell reusable and surplus building materials, furniture and appliances to the public. To donate materials, contact your local Habitat ReStore. Most ReStores will include a variety of new and used building materials, appliances and furniture.

Some restrictions/exceptions may apply for donations to the Charlotte Region ReStore. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept broken, stained, inoperable items, or items that violate health and safety regulations. We reserve the right to refuse any donation drop-off or pick-up if it does not meet our donation criteria or standards. Through your purchases, generous donation of items, and volunteering, we can come together to build a legacy of strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter here in the Charlotte region.
Habitat’s vision is of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Habitat works toward this vision by building and improving homes in partnership with individuals and families in need of a decent and affordable place to live. Habitat partners with the City of Charlotte as an advocate for affordable housing and on numerous housing projects, the most recent of which is The Meadows at Plato Price development.
For its work the city collaborates with nonprofits, housing developers, and community partners using The Housing Charlotte Framework. The Framework’s goal is to expand access to opportunity through housing investments using funds from the City’s Housing Trust Fund.
